Al informed me that high tide was at 9.00am so I set the alarm for 6.00am. I woke at 5.30am anyway and packed up my kit and set out from Wolverhampton at 6.00am.

Great journey as the roads were deserted all the way to Borth (I only met 3 cars, overtook 2, 1 turned off!). Anyway I drove into the estuary car park just before 8.00am so a record time for the drive, good start.

Turned out that I parked next to Dave and Sarah who were just getting ready to launch. Al was already out with Steve but came in to say hi.

I rigged up my 5.3m Trixx and the Mistral Flow 113L. I haven't spent that much time on this board so I was interested to see how I would do!

Tried a couple of runs to see what the conditions were like and check that every thing felt balanced. The board was popping up onto the plane nicely. Started going tfor the straps and found that with a decent wind blowing it was very easy to get them, although I did stall a couple of times going for the back strap without enough power on. I think making them a bit wider had helped a lot.

So some nice controlled blasting over to the sand banks and back interspersed with a gybe attempt and a dunking for the rig flip before waterstarting away again!

Felt nice and in control. There were some lulls, which left me slogging for a while as I was on the 5.3 but when it blew I was very comfortable so I didn't change.

I couldn't change sail any way because I found my mast extension was almost welded into the mast, I didn't manage to free it until about 7pm back home using a hose pipe to wash the sand and salt away and a supreme effort!

After Al and Steve had left for a big breakfast I went for the last few runs as the water disappeared with the tide, tempted because the wind had kicked in again. However, I went too far upwind and straight into the sand bank. Fortunately this emergency stop only broke the harness line, which was torn from the boom!

Great day though, very happy with the conditions, loved sailing that board, and good to be out with the others! So glad I got there early.

More Easterly winds please...

Next stop Cornwall, I'm off to Hayle on July 11th so its Marazion and the Hayle Estaury next...
